A study found that women who were overweight at age 14 or 31 have a higher risk of ischemic stroke by age 55. The research reviewed data from over 10,000 participants and found that women with excess weight at a young age had an increased risk of stroke even if they lost weight later in life. Obesity at age 31 was associated with a 167% higher risk of stroke compared to those with normal weight. Men did not show the same risk, but obesity at age 31 was linked to a higher risk of bleeding stroke in men. Healthcare professionals should address overweight and obesity in young people to prevent future health issues.
