Obesity is a known risk factor for heart attacks and strokes, with a new study finding that being obese for 10 or more years significantly increases the risk for individuals under 50. The study analyzed data from over 100,000 women and 27,000 men, showing a 25%-60% increase in the risk of heart attacks and strokes in younger men and women with long-term obesity. However, the study found no increased risk in older individuals. The researchers emphasized the importance of timely intervention in treating obesity to prevent complications and improve patient outcomes, suggesting that addressing obesity early can prevent associated risks.
