St James’s Hospital in Dublin has performed more than 3,750 stem cell and bone marrow transplants since 1984. The first bone marrow transplant in Ireland was done at the hospital in 1984, saving the life of a patient with leukemia. The hospital now performs stem cell transplants on almost 200 patients annually. The National Adult Stem Cell Transplantation Service at St James’s has expanded to include the Irish Centre for Adult CAR T-Cell Therapy. The hospital’s transplant unit is supported by the charity Bone Marrow for Leukemia Trust. The hospital’s CEO and staff are dedicated to continuing to provide world-class cancer care.
