A study presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference found that an electronic tool was effective in deprescribing unnecessary inhalers in patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Researchers from the University of Toronto conducted a quality improvement project in an ILD clinic, which led to a significant increase in counseling and deprescribing of unnecessary inhalers. This electronic initiative showed potential in reducing overprescribing and improving patient care. While more research is needed due to the small sample size and single-center data, the results suggest that electronic reminders can prompt a review of inhaler use and reduce unnecessary medication usage in ILD patients.
