The study found that LGBTQ+ cancer survivors, especially transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, have a higher risk of developing chronic health conditions and limitations compared to non-LGBTQ+ survivors. Researchers analyzed data from over 40,000 survivors and found that LGBTQ+ survivors had increased odds of asthma, depressive disorders, kidney disease, stroke, diabetes, and other health issues. Transgender and gender non-conforming survivors had the highest likelihood of developing these conditions. The study highlighted the need for high-quality LGBTQ+-inclusive care for cancer survivors to address the disparities in health outcomes. Future research should focus on understanding the financial and employment issues faced by LGBTQ+ cancer survivors.
