Researchers have developed a new blood test that can predict the onset of Parkinson’s disease seven years before symptoms appear. Parkinson’s is a progressive disorder that affects the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as tremors, memory loss, and mobility issues. The test uses artificial intelligence to analyze eight blood-based biomarkers that are typically altered in Parkinson’s patients. By identifying potential patients early, researchers believe that new therapies could be administered sooner to slow down disease progression or possibly prevent it altogether. The test was successful in predicting the onset of Parkinson’s in 16 participants with Rapid Eye Movement Behavior Disorder.
