A study published in Obstetrics & Gynecology examined the link between antenatal COVID-19 vaccination and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Pregnancy increases the risk of severe outcomes from SARS-CoV-2 infection, leading to complications like preterm birth and hypertensive disorders. While pregnant women were initially excluded from vaccine trials, mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were found to reduce complications for pregnant women and their infants. The study included over 55,000 women and found that vaccination during pregnancy did not increase the risk of adverse outcomes. However, the study had limitations, including a lack of data on COVID-19 diagnoses not requiring medical attention and only including women with health insurance.
