A recent study found that the AI chatbot ChatGPT can improve the readability of online cancer-related patient information while maintaining quality. Patients with cancer often struggle with complex information online, so researchers had ChatGPT rewrite content about various types of cancer to a sixth-grade reading level. The revision significantly improved readability to a high school freshman level. The rewritten content was accurate and maintained a good quality rating. This AI intervention could help bridge the gap between patient health literacy and information from top cancer centers. The study was published in the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, but was limited to English-language content from NCCN member websites.
