A study published in Radiology analyzed the impact of implementing AI-based screening systems in mammography for breast cancer detection. The AI system significantly reduced radiologists’ workload by improving the screening performance. The AI-based screening resulted in increased breast cancer diagnoses and decreased false positives compared to traditional methods. The positive predictive value was higher, and the percentage of invasive cancers was lower with AI screening. Overall, the AI system decreased radiologists’ workload by 33.5%. The study highlights the effectiveness of AI in improving mammography screening outcomes in Denmark’s population-based breast cancer screening program.
