Chief Washington correspondent Julie Rovner and Atul Grover of the Association of American Medical Colleges discussed how graduating medical students are avoiding training in states with abortion bans. The analysis found a decrease in applicants to residency programs in states with strict abortion laws, particularly in the Midwest and South. This trend affects all specialties, not just OB-GYNs. The number of applicants in states with near-total abortion bans declined by 4.2%, while states where abortion is legal saw a 0.6% drop. This has implications for the medical profession as a whole. Additionally, health authorities are monitoring a bird flu strain that has infected dairy cows and a dairy worker in multiple states.
