A recent study in Scientific Reports examined Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HDSS) in women and men, a condition characterized by low sexual desire causing distress. Research using fMRI and questionnaires found women with HDSS exhibit hyperactivity in higher cognitive areas suppressing sexual brain regions, while men did not show this pattern. This study highlights sexual dimorphism in how male and female brains process sexual stimuli. Currently, treatment options are limited, with more focus on women than men. Further research is needed to understand the cognitive mechanisms of HDSS in men and develop effective interventions for this common sexual disorder.
