A 62-year-old woman has died of cholera on the French island of Mayotte, bringing the death toll from the epidemic to two. The woman died at her home in the capital, Mamoudzou. Response teams disinfected the home and provided care to the deceased’s family and friends. In late April, Mayotte reported its first locally acquired cases of cholera, in addition to 10 imported cases. The island had previously had 10 cases from travelers from other regions, mainly from neighboring Comoros. Mayotte is an administrative region of France and has faced protests against new arrivals despite efforts to tighten citizenship rules.
