Two studies from Oxford Population Health have identified proteins in the blood that could potentially warn individuals of cancer more than seven years before diagnosis. These studies found 618 proteins linked to 19 types of cancer, with 107 proteins present in individuals whose blood was collected seven years before diagnosis. The research suggests that these proteins could be involved in the earliest stages of cancer development, presenting an opportunity for early detection and prevention. Further research is needed to determine the reliability of these proteins for testing and potential drug targets, bringing us closer to preventing cancer with targeted therapies.
