Understanding this region’s role is crucial for addressing global challenges and developing treatments for social interaction disorders. A study conducted by the University of Birmingham and the University of Oxford found that individuals with damage to the vmPFC were less willing to help others and exert less effort in doing so compared to healthy participants. This research could lead to new treatments for conditions like psychopathy and provide insights into the development of prosocial behavior through education.
