BMA has issued guidance for the supervision of medical associate professionals (MAPs), such as physician associates, requiring them to have a named supervisor in all healthcare settings. The guidance emphasizes the need for supervisors to have dedicated time for discussions with MAPs and to review patients according to their scope of practice. This is the first time clear guidance has been provided for the NHS and doctors on the supervision of MAPs. The BMA’s aim is to ensure the highest quality of care and support for MAPs in their role within the healthcare system.
