NHS England is accused of complacency over workforce plan risk assessment

Concerns have been raised over the risk assessment carried out for the NHS long term workforce plan, with a senior doctor accusing NHS England of not putting enough consideration into the impact the plan would have on staff.

The risk assessment, obtained through a freedom of information request, shows that NHS England outlined 12 risks that could affect the plan before it was published in June last year.1 These risks included that government decisions on “pay, terms and conditions, [and] service ambition” could “destabilise industrial relations” and that the strategy for the NHS was not clear beyond the long term plan, making it “harder to forecast workforce demand levels” …
