A study found that using invisible ink tattoos instead of visible ink tattoos for radiation treatment alignment can improve quality of life for cancer patients. Traditional dark-ink tattoos used for radiation setup can be a constant reminder of a traumatic time for patients. The study showed that patients preferred invisible ink tattoos and were even willing to travel farther to avoid visible ink tattoos. The invisible ink tattoos also improved treatment efficiency. While there may be a slightly higher cost for invisible ink tattoos, the approach is feasible and can be adopted by other radiation centers to improve survivor well-being and quality of life.
