An analysis found that over 750,000 deaths in low and middle income countries could be prevented annually by improving infection control, access to clean water and sanitation, and promoting pediatric vaccines. The authors of a Lancet series called for increased global efforts to address antimicrobial resistance, which is responsible for an estimated 4.95 million deaths each year. Without action, the global death toll from bacterial infections will continue to rise, with vulnerable populations such as babies, older individuals, and those with chronic illnesses being most at risk. Existing measures to combat antimicrobial resistance must be intensified to prevent further deaths.
