Gen Z skincare enthusiasts often follow viral trends without understanding the importance of sunscreen in preventing skin cancer. A survey by the AAD reveals that over 50% of Gen Z adults are unaware of the dangers of sun damage. One in four already has skin damage due to sun exposure, and only 37% use sunscreen. Skin cancer risk doubles with more than five sunburns, and one in five U.S. adults is at risk of developing it. Sunscreen myths include causing cancer, not needed on cloudy days, high SPF avoiding reapplication, and dark skin tones not requiring protection. Experts recommend daily sunscreen use, reapplication every two hours, and tinted mineral-based sunscreens for all skin types.
