ECG-Based AI Could Reduce Hospital Mortality

admin

A study published in Nature Medicine shows that an AI system developed by Dr. Chin-Sheng Lin and colleagues alerts hospital physicians about high-risk patients, leading to a reduction in mortality rates. The AI system utilizes 12-lead ECG data to identify patients who would benefit from intensified care. In a randomized controlled study involving 15,965 patients, AI warning messages sent to caregivers’ mobile phones resulted in a significant decrease in overall mortality over 90 days, particularly in cardiac deaths. Patients with high-risk ECGs in the intervention group received more intensive care, leading to improved outcomes. Further research is needed to understand how AI interventions impact mortality rates.
