A study found that a weekly intake of 14 or more potatoes was associated with a lower risk of death compared to an intake of six or fewer potatoes. Each 100g per day increment of potato consumption was linked to a 4% decrease in the risk of death. The study focused on the effects of boiled potatoes on mortality from all causes, cardiovascular diseases, ischemic heart disease, and acute myocardial infarction. Although the results were significant, the study’s generalizability is limited to a Norwegian population from the 1970s and 1980s. Overall, the findings suggest that potato consumption can be a healthy part of a diet.
