Autism charity AsIAm is set to open two new hubs to provide information and support to autistic adults, children and families after receiving Government funding.
The ‘Autism One Stop Shops’ aims to be coordinated, effective, neuro-affirmative evidence-based destinations, providing ‘drop in’ and structured supports.
The new hubs will be located in healthcare regions CHO 7 (Kildare, west Wicklow, Dublin west, Dublin south city, and Dublin south-west) and CHO 2 (Galway, Mayo and Roscommon).
“Autistic people face invisible barriers across community life – from availing of public services to accessing social opportunities and securing employment,” said AsIAm CEO Adam Harris.
“The ‘one stop shop’ model is based on a proven record of success in Scotland and will enable autistic people and families to access barrier-free advice and support in the community.
The charity hopes that, in the future, further hubs can be established nationwide, providing supports in addition to state services.
Mr Harris added: “Critically the one stop shops will enable families to access support across the life cycle and the range of policy areas – breaking down silos which cost families precious time, energy and support.”
