Changes In Your Nail Color May Signal Cancer Risk

admin

Researchers have found that changes in the color and texture of nails could indicate a person’s risk for developing cancers, specifically BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome. This rare-inherited disorder is associated with an increased risk of cancerous tumors in various parts of the body. A study led by the US National Institutes of Health identified a benign nail abnormality called onychopapilloma, characterized by a white or red-colored band along the length of the nail and nail thickening, as a possible indicator of this syndrome. The researchers recommend nail screening for patients with a personal or family history of melanoma or other potential BAP1-associated malignancy.
