A study found that older adults taking antihypertensive drugs had a higher incidence rate of eczematous dermatitis, with diuretic drugs and calcium channel blockers having the highest rates. The study, using data from primary care records, showed an increased risk of eczematous dermatitis in patients taking antihypertensive drugs, with a potential for 43,500 new cases per year in the U.K. ACE inhibitors and B-blockers had the lowest prevalence. Clinicians are advised to consider drug-induced eczematous dermatitis in older patients taking antihypertensive drugs and consider switching treatment if necessary. Additional research is needed to understand the mechanisms behind this association.
