Volatile Work Schedule In Early Adulthood Linked To Poor Health Decades Later: Study

Researchers have found that working outside typical hours in early adulthood can impact health by age 50. The study analyzed data from over 7,300 participants and found transitioning from stable to volatile work schedules was linked to poor health outcomes and increased risk of depression at age 50. Black Americans were more likely to have volatile schedules and experience adverse health effects. Irregular sleep, fatigue, and emotional exhaustion due to work schedules may explain the negative health impacts. The study highlights the detrimental long-term health effects of unpredictable work schedules and how they disproportionately affect certain populations in society.
