A team of cancer researchers has developed an AI model that can trace the origins of metastatic cancer cells in the body, improving outcomes for patients. In a study published in Nature Medicine, the team trained the AI with images of cancer cells from patients and found it to be 83% accurate in identifying the type of tumor. The AI outperformed human lab technicians in spotting and identifying cancer cells in fluid samples. The study suggests that using AI to identify metastatic cancer cells could lead to more effective treatments and improved survival rates for cancer patients.
