Tuberculosis is an airborne bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs and spreads through coughing, sneezing, or spitting. The Chicago Department of Public Health has not disclosed the specific number of cases but assures city residents have not contracted the infection from exposed migrants. Around 10-20% of Central and South Americans have latent tuberculosis, which is not infectious. Symptoms include a persistent cough, chest pain, weight loss, and fatigue. TB is treatable with antibiotics and not highly contagious.
