A study involving research at the University of Gothenburg found that women with triple-negative breast cancer and high levels of immune cells in tumors have a lower relapse risk after surgery, even without chemotherapy. Triple-negative breast cancer is more common in younger women of various ethnicities, and is faster growing and more likely to spread than other types of breast cancer. The study showed that high levels of immune cells in tumors are a strong prognostic biomarker for survival, even without chemotherapy. Further research is needed to determine if patients with high levels of immune cells can avoid intensive treatment with chemotherapy.
