Topical Vs Oral Minoxidil for AGA: Which Is More Effective?

A study comparing low-dose oral minoxidil and topical minoxidil found that oral minoxidil was just as effective in promoting hair growth as the topical form. The trial was well-designed and included 90 men with androgenetic alopecia. Results showed that oral minoxidil had a higher increase in terminal hair density in the vertex area compared to topical minoxidil. However, more side effects like hypertrichosis and headaches were reported in the oral minoxidil group. Both doctors interviewed believe that oral minoxidil may be more effective long-term, but patients who prefer topical treatment can achieve results with adherence to the regimen.
