Combining pediatric dermatology and rheumatology clinics can improve patient care and satisfaction, according to a survey of 208 pediatric dermatologists working in such clinics. Benefits include coordinated treatment decisions and timely communication between providers, with favorable patient satisfaction and endorsement of the combined clinic approach. Barriers to establishing combined clinics include differences in clinic flow, the need to generate more value units, resistance from colleagues, and limited time. Areas needing improvement include more time for patient visits, dedicated research assistants, new patient referrals, additional patient rooms, resources for research, and patient care infrastructure. The study was published in Pediatric Dermatology and was supported by the National Institutes of Health.
