A recent study in Nicotine & Tobacco Research found that smokers who switch to electronic cigarettes are now more likely to quit smoking traditional cigarettes. The research, titled “Divergence in cigarette discontinuation rates by use of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS),” analyzed data from the U.S. PATH Study Waves 1-6 and found that between 2018 and 2021, e-cigarette users had higher quit rates compared to non-users. This change in outcomes may be attributed to the evolving e-cigarette market and product formulations. The study emphasizes the importance of using up-to-date data to inform public health decisions regarding smoking cessation.
