Researchers unveil a novel strategy for identifying key proteins in organelle communication

A collaborative effort between POSTECH, Daegu Catholic University School of Medicine, and Seoul National University has developed a novel strategy called OrthoID to identify key proteins in organelle communication. This method improves the ability to pinpoint proteins crucial for interactions between organelles, particularly between mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). OrthoID utilizes multiple binding pair systems to accurately label and isolate mediator proteins involved in organelle contact sites, shedding light on their roles in cellular functions and disease mechanisms. The flexibility and modularity of OrthoID make it a valuable tool for studying cellular communication, with potential implications for understanding diseases and developing therapeutic strategies.
