Kaiser Permanente has opened a Food is Medicine Center of Excellence to provide nutrition interventions to its 12.5 million members. This includes medically-tailored meals, produce prescriptions, and nutrition counseling. The center will also focus on expanding nutrition screening, clinical nutrition training, and partnerships with government agencies and businesses to improve access to healthy food. The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services praised the initiative, and Kaiser Permanente is committing $2 million to the Summer EBT program. Other healthcare organizations are also investing in food as medicine programs. Kaiser Permanente has also committed $50 million through 2030 to address hunger and nutrition.
