Government re-instates Long Covid scheme for healthcare workers

The Government has reinstated a paid leave scheme for public health service workers with Long Covid. The temporary scheme, previously paused, has been extended until June 30 in response to calls from health sector unions. Around 120 nurses are still unable to work due to Long Covid symptoms. The scheme will apply retrospectively from April 1 to those previously receiving paid leave. The conclusion of the scheme had led to an industrial relations claim, now referred back to the Workplace Relations Commission. The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation welcomed the decision, hoping for continued support for affected workers. There will be no impact on sick leave entitlements for those affected.
