Health Minister Stephen Donnelly emphasized the need for a cultural change in working conditions for NCHDs as part of workforce reforms. He highlighted the progress made in improving junior doctors’ conditions, such as better facilities and enhanced induction. Donnelly also discussed the importance of implementing a new NCHD contract and increasing the number of GPs to ensure timely access to essential services. He acknowledged the role of the IMO in the rollout of the public-only consultant contract. Donnelly stated that the healthcare reform process is in progress and urged for urgency in addressing the issues faced by healthcare professionals.
