France plans to introduce a five euro penalty for patients who miss medical appointments, aiming to address the 27 million consultations wasted each year. The penalty is part of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s efforts to improve the struggling healthcare system due to increasing demands from an aging population. The measure aims to free up appointments for other patients and will be enforced starting January 1. In addition, France plans to increase the number of medical students to address the shortage of doctors. Despite criticism, the government is taking steps to improve access to healthcare in response to the concerns of French voters.
