A new pilot study suggests that the ketogenic diet may reduce symptoms of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, reverse metabolic syndrome, and promote weight loss. Participants on the high-fat, low-carb diet experienced a 30% reduction in psychiatric symptoms and a 10% decrease in weight. The diet was found to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, potentially improving brain metabolism. The study included 21 participants taking psychotropic medications, with significant improvements in metabolic markers and overall health. Adherence to the keto diet correlated with better outcomes, suggesting a potential link between metabolic health and mental well-being. However, the study’s limitations include a small sample size and lack of a control group.
