A study conducted by the University of Birmingham found that healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, feel ill-equipped to address the issue of childhood obesity due to a lack of training, time, and resources. Professionals expressed frustration over limited availability of specialist services, lack of training on childhood obesity, and concerns about damaging trust with families. The study highlighted the need for more support and dedicated time for healthcare professionals to provide practical advice and refer families to specialist services. Lack of trust in using BMI centiles for assessing weight problems in children was also raised as a concern among professionals. The study suggests that more training and resources are needed to effectively tackle the growing epidemic of childhood obesity.
