Cataract surgery about to enter second ‘golden age’

At the Hawaiian Eye/Retina 2024 conference, speaker J. Andy Corley discussed how cataract and anterior segment services are entering a new “golden age” due to changing demographics and increased demand. Despite challenges such as cuts in reimbursement and rising costs, Corley explained that the industry is facing a time of high demand for ophthalmic services. He emphasized the need for ophthalmologists to hire more staff, invest in training, and be grateful for the opportunities in the field. Overall, the future outlook for cataract and anterior segment services looks positive, according to Corley.
