Researchers have developed an AI program that can identify signs of childbirth-related post-traumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) by analyzing short narratives from patients who have given birth. The program successfully identified a large number of participants likely to have CB-PTSD, indicating the potential for rapid and cost-effective screening for the disorder. Untreated CB-PTSD can have negative effects on breastfeeding, bonding with the baby, and maternal mental health. The study suggests that the AI model could help make the diagnosis of CB-PTSD more accessible, addressing past disparities in diagnosis. The research was conducted by scholars from Bar Ilan University and Massachusetts General Hospital.
