UK study identifies ideal weight for adults with type 2 diabetes to minimize risk of dying from cardiovascular disease

New research presented at the European Congress on Obesity in Venice, Italy, suggests that the optimal body weight range for adults with type 2 diabetes to reduce the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease varies by age. For adults aged 65 or younger, maintaining a BMI within the normal range of 23–25 kg/m² is best, while those over 65 may benefit from a moderate overweight BMI of 26–28 kg/m². The study, based on data from the UK Biobank, emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy weight to reduce cardiovascular disease risk in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Personalized treatment plans based on age group may be beneficial.
