A new study suggests that replacing sugary drinks and fruit juices with whole fruits may reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes in boys. Researchers found that boys who consumed 8 ounces or more of sugary beverages daily during childhood and adolescence had an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes based on glycemic indicators, while girls did not show the same association. Consuming fresh fruits did not impact the risk of Type 2 diabetes for both boys and girls. The study highlights the dangers of added sugars in beverages and the importance of discussing healthy eating habits with pediatricians and parents.
