Republican states more likely to report Covid vaccine side effects

A new analysis found that people in Republican-voting states were more likely to report adverse events after receiving a Covid-19 vaccination compared to those in Democratic-leaning states. The study, published in JAMA Network Open, found that a 10% increase in Republican votes in the last presidential election was associated with increased reporting of adverse events. This polarization is consistent with trends seen during the pandemic, with more deaths in Republican-voting states. The study also highlighted the political divide in attitudes towards vaccines, with concerns about vaccine safety being more prevalent in Republican-leaning states. The study authors lamented the negative impact of political polarization on public health.
