Novocure’s Electrical Cancer Therapy Shows It Can Treat Tumors in the Brain

A Novocure medical device that uses electricity to kill tumors has shown promising results in slowing the progression of lung cancer that has spread to the brain. The device, which uses “Tumor Treating Fields” to exert physical forces on cancer cells, was tested in a Phase 3 trial with adult non-small cell lung cancer patients who had brain metastases. Results showed a significant improvement in time to cancer progression in the brain with the device compared to supportive care alone. While the treatment did not show statistical significance in all secondary goals, it was well tolerated and maintained quality of life for patients. Regulatory approval for the device in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer is expected later this year.
