Higher SBP in Midlife Associated With Later Risk of AF

A study in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that increased systolic blood pressure, pulse pressure, and mean arterial blood pressure in midlife are associated with a higher risk of atrial fibrillation in later life. The study, conducted with participants from the ARIC study, showed that elevated blood pressure was linked to a higher incidence of AF, particularly in Black men. However, the study had limitations due to its observational nature and the changes in blood pressure management over time. The findings emphasize the importance of preventing hypertension early in midlife to reduce the risk of developing AF.
