Single-stage slope-reducing osteotomy may yield positive outcomes in active patients

A study presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting showed that single-stage slope-reducing high-tibial osteotomy may have similar return to sport rates as isolated ACL reconstruction in active patients. The study compared outcomes of 48 patients who received either isolated ACL reconstruction or ACL reconstruction with a slope-reducing high-tibial osteotomy. Initial results showed that isolated ACL reconstruction had a shorter time until return to play and better ACL-RSI scores, but when stratified by single-stage vs. double-stage procedures, the single-stage group had similar return to play rates to isolated ACL reconstruction, while the double-stage group had longer time until return to play.
