A study published in the European Journal of Preventative Cardiology found that women with preeclampsia during their first pregnancy have a higher risk of developing arrhythmias. The study included data from over 500,000 primiparous women in Denmark and found that those with preeclampsia had a higher 20-year cumulative incidence of arrhythmias compared to those without preeclampsia. Women with preeclampsia also had an increased risk for mortality. The researchers recommended that women with a history of preeclampsia should be evaluated for cardiovascular risk factors and receive educational interventions to prevent future cardiovascular disease.
