Spotlight on Dr. Jeffrey Kerr

Dr. Jeffrey Kerr is one of our board-certified child neurologists. And he’s also a “board-certified” Texas history aficionado (more on that later).

Dr. Kerr is a graduate of Rice University with a degree in electrical engineering, and a graduate of Texas A & M University where he earned his medical degree. He fulfilled his pediatric residency at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas, followed by a child neurology residency at Wake Forest University. While at Wake Forest, he also served on the faculty there for two years.

Dr. Kerr began practicing in Austin in 1991 at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic, then later moved to ‘Specially for Children, Children’s Hospital of Austin. Prior to joining Child Neurology Consultants of Austin, Dr. Kerr was a physician with Pediatric Specialty Services at Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Outside of treating patients, Dr. Kerr is a Texas history buff and the author of several books inspired by his love and research of the photographs he discovered at the Austin History Center. His first book, Austin, Texas-Then and Now, was a 2005 non-fiction finalist for the Writer’s League of Texas Violet Crown Award. His second and third books are respectively titled The Republic of Austin, and Seat of Empire: The Embattled Birth of Austin, Texas.

His most recent novel, Lamar’s Folly, was just published by Texas Tech University Press and is on  bookshelves now! He is also co-producer of a documentary film titled The Last of the Moonlight Towers.

Dr. Kerr has been married for more than 30 years to his wife Sharon.
