Myofascial Release- Manual Dysphagia Therapy

Team SNR had a great weekend in OKC training in Myofascial Release! We are excited to offer this as another treatment mobility for our patients, particularly those post head and neck cancer.
We see many patients at our clinic who had head and neck cancer several (even 10+) years ago and never had SLP services. They became cancer free and didn’t have any difficulty swallowing at first, but over time as fibrosis/ scar tissue worsened, they began to develop more difficulty swallowing. It eventually gets so severe that they see an ENT who sends them to us. While this isn’t the ideal scenario (referral pre-radiation for prophylactic exercise introduction is best practice for preventing/reducing these effects), there is still much help we can provide. The earlier the intervention, the better the outcomes.
Myofascial release is a method of manual therapy that we are excited to add to our toolbox for these patients with severe post-radiation fibrosis-related dysphagia, along with many other speciality programs and modalities we offer including the McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program, surface electromyography, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and more.
