Confidence For A New Job: A Reath Patient Story

Every time we post new before and after photos on our website, we try to include a bit of information about the patient. Every now and then, a patient will write about his or her experience with us and how this has affected their lives.

Here is a patient who struggled with hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) and was concerned it would interfere with her dream job. I appreciate her sharing her story with us, and wish her all the best in her new teaching position.

Botox For Sweating

I am a recent college graduate (UT of course) and was fortunate enough to get a job doing what I have always dreamed of doing – teaching children with special needs!

I was very excited, but also extremely nervous to start a new job and have my very own classroom.  Unfortunately nerves lead to underarm sweat and I didn’t want to start my new job with sweat stains!

I knew I would be standing in front of a class room teaching students in an environment where I would stay very active for most of the day.  I had heard about using Botox to treat underarm sweating, but I am not a big fan of needles and had put it off for fear that it may hurt.

I researched and learned that Botox can last up to 6 months in the underarm area by working with the gland to stop or diminish the sweating. I went to Jill at Dr. Reath’s office. The process was thoroughly explained to me and I was excited when I was offered a numbing cream that was applied for 30 minutes prior to my treatment (this is optional).

I was shocked when the treatment began and there was hardly any pain involved!  I can say the procedure was quick and pretty much painless. I think that when I get the treatment again I can go without the numbing cream and be just fine.

Jill told me to give the Botox a few days to work.  One week after the injection WOW there was no sweating, no odor and I can even go without deodorant. I have more confidence when teaching in my classroom and can wear any shirt that I want to, regardless of the material it’s made of (even silk!).

I am now a fan of Botox for underarm sweating because it changed my life and I will never go back to those embarrassing sweat stains.
